Safer Searching

• Nice a search environment for primary schools (see also Ice)- this site is run by Dudley LA and links to age appropriate curriculum materials for primary schools - note link to CyberCafe.
• Britannica OnLine (BwD Schools go via this link - LCC schools via this one)
• Wikipedia - but teach about reliability

Looking for Images

Never use with or encourage children to use Google Images - the best filtering will never prevent access to inappropriate images! There are copyright issues that shouldn't be ignored when using images from the web - the copyright of all images will be owned by someone! Read the small print before using any.

• Wikimedia (a really useful search - much more appropriate than Google images)
• Flickr Creative Commons images (many users of Flickr have agreed that their images may be used by others - users may come across inappropriate images)
• Heritage Explorer Images - mainly UK buildings (but does include more) search or explore by theme
• Ictopus Picture Library (you need to be logged in - but it's free to register)
• FreeFoto.com
• Pics4Learning
• E2BNGallery
• East Riding Media Library
• Animated gifs from UniServity (BwD schools only - you will need to be logged on to the learning platform to access these)
• Watch out for the launch of the National Digital Resource Bank - like most It projects - overdue!!

Internet Safety
