Outline Content

  1. ICT in primary schools, national issues and initiatives.
  2. The structure and purpose of the Programmes of Study of the ICT National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2.
  3. Introduction to the characteristics of Exchanging and sharing information, Finding things out, Developing ideas and Making things happen.
  4. Medium and short term planning, including the evaluation of published schemes.
  5. The role of the TA in the teaching of ICT.
  6. The selection, preparation and effective use of resources and materials.
  7. Strategies for teaching ICT, including the importance of preparatory off computer work, modeling and scaffolding, small group and whole class teaching.
  8. The teaching of ICT to pupils with differing needs.
  9. Progression in pupils' IT capability with particular reference to the National Curriculum level descriptors, hierarchies of skills and understandings in Exchanging and sharing information, Finding things out, Developing ideas and making things happen.
  10. Assessing IT capability.
  11. Recording and reporting on pupils' progress and difficulties to the teacher.
  12. Appropriate use of ICT in the Foundation Stage.
